Wacky, wonderful, coming-of-age story about a dreamer, an indian dreamer, a description thought by most on the rez to be an oxymoron. Junior, an aspiring cartoonist, dreams of opportunities beyond the rez, but these dreams put him at odds with the expectations of his reservation family and also the students at the all-white high school he fights to attend. Heartbreaking, yet hopeful story about the strength needed to defy the hold of low expectations and hang on to dreams.

Sayuri never forgets this small act.

Taking you back in time to the late 1800s, the “Luxe” is story centered around two sisters, Elizabeth and Diana Holland. On the surface, Elizabeth Holland is the perfect girl but on the inside she is contrary. Sneaking around at night, Elizabeth goes to her true love, Will Keller, the family’s coachman. Following the rules of society, Elizabeth isn’t allowed to marry him and is forced to marry Henry Schoonmaker, Manhattan ‘s eligible bachelor and playboy, after finding out that her family is poor because of her late father.

Diana Holland is the younger sister of Elizabeth Holland. She is the sister who likes to have more fun or who doesn’t mind if a few rules are broken. Some people would say that she is in “la la land” half the time because she likes to imagine herself in her books. In fact, she was happy when she learned that her family was poor.

The “Luxe” is like Gossip Girl but told at a different time period. It has love, scandals, frenemies, love triangles, and more. Overall it was an interesting book and I would recommend it to others. Although it started slow and was kind of boring. I think the ending made up for it (even though it was predictable) and I can’t wait to read the interesting parts in the second book, “Rumors.”
